In this video post I ask if we’re really using the power, the sheer numbers we have available to us, thanks to the internet, to make our products affordable.
I also ask for your help – the beard. Should it stay, or should it go?
Would the dog sit down quietly? See for yourself.
Well? What do you think? Let me know in comments.
You can see a no beard video of mine here talking about two hour blogging sessions.

Keep the beard. Beards add a distinguished touch!
Also, I agree on the pricing thing. I don't currently sign up for anything which costs more than $10. It's a harsh fact that making money from writing/blogging isn't an easy gig. I prefer to get an audience first and pay for the convenience of someone doing the legwork for me later, when I can afford to. It would take a LONG time to earn $2,000 to pay for any product through a website or blog. And it really irritates me that many people in business end up making money from those who are new to business. Most businesses fail within their first 6 months. There is always going to be another new person in business who doesn't know how to zero in on the things which will make a difference to their success. Paying money is no guarantee of success, except for the business who sold you their product!

Hmm..
Hey Mike,
Firstly... you look like a mature internet dude for sure!
Secondly.. I must get a video for my readers and have my doggy going in and out of the shot, adds character ;-) ha!
Thirdly, it was quite interesting to see how you got excited to get every email. When it comes to the price, the reason I offer everything for free is because if I charged it would have to be a lot of money. I always find seminars and workshops a lot better than buying products, you should definitly look to go to one.
I often get people asking me to consult for them, the problem is I work 1 hour a day and if I had to give another hour away I would want to match my daily income which most people just can't afford to do. I can see where these marketers are coming from and if they under value the product, it may not so successful because people always determine how good something is by the value.

Welcome Michael! That
Welcome Michael!
That particular dog actually moves about three times a day, but I guess I timed the video wrong! I do quite a lot of voiceover stuff, and I'm known as "one take Mike" so I wasn't going to ruin my reputation for the hound!
I followed your seminar exploits and I'm coming to the same conclusion, so I guess I'll see you at one sometime.
I'm pushing the boundary in my video, and I'm not even sure I believe products should be sold so cheaply. But there must be a graph of number of sales versus price, and at some point the two lines will intersect.
I'm going to try it with my next product, so watch this space to see how it all goes.

Hey Mike- I vote for no
Hey Mike- I vote for no beard, but either way, fantastic video presence and cute dog!
I really don't think marketers are even using the power of the internet when it comes to sales. It's the 80/20 rule. There's probably about 20% (if that) of marketers really going the extra mile, making sure their prices are appropriate, their brand is consistent, their message is powerful, and their testing new creative and theories. The other 80 percent is either in the industry for a quick buck, trying to follow the next big thing, or think it's too hard to test offers, pricing, marketing, etc.
Those with staying power are those who put the work in, not just selling blindly, or giving away stuff for free without an end goal.
Wow! That's Dina from Market Leverage!

My Thoughts Exactly
Good video Mike.
First, lose the beard...... your Avatar looks much younger, so it's either because of No Beard or it's a very old photo.... :-)
Like the video. You're right, I see those offers all the time. "Make Thousands Working 2 Hours Per Day"
The one thing that strikes me most about these sales pitches is that they all sell the same thing. They're all making money out the internet out of telling people how to make money out of the internet.... Hmmm... Does anyone actually have a website that actually sells something other than videos about how to make money out of the internet?
Car magazines are failing to leverage the power of the internet. My recent blog post about car magazines missing a trick got my phone ringing, but no editor would go online to comment:

Welcome Neill
Thanks for the comments, and the beard has gone! I really, really enjoyed your post about Car Magazines, and I am a petrol head. I've commented.

About the beard...!
Hi Mike!
Since the date of your post was in April, you have probably made your decision already!! I think you look great either way and I love your doggy. We have 4, so not sure if I would dare that x 4!
You are so right. Especially in today's economy, at least here in the States. I think the odds are better to have a lower price, especially for your lead in product, once people get and see the value in that product, they may be eager to purchase the higher price point products from you.
I do the same, I quickly scroll down to the bottom to see the price and yes $2000 is tooooo much!
Thank you for the great content in your blog. ~Lisa
