The Blogging Ladder

I promise that the only drug I took when I wrote this was caffeine….

Like me, most of you who read Mike’s Life are what I would describe as “middle ranking” bloggers. We’re on a journey and hoping to take ourselves and our blogs on to bigger, better things.

I like to imagine we’re each on a ladder, heading for a party that’s going on, up there in the clouds. It’s where the “A” list bloggers live, where you get to when you’ve reached the top of your ladder:

  • Chris Brogan is on the door offering a warm welcome to all who arrive
  • Darren Rowse is being incredibly helpful, showing newcomers around, and resolutely refusing tips for doing so
  • Gary Vaynerchuk is in one corner doing a very loud live link up with Oprah
  • Chris Garrett is tinkering with the wi-fi setup for everyone
  • Chris Guillebeau is absent as he’s currently travelling, somewhere in Africa, or was it Asia?
  • Penelope Trunk is answering comments, many of which are longer than the post they relate to
  • David Risley is using his height to reach down a ladder and help someone up the last few steps
  • Brian Clark is just chillin’ on a couch, wearing a Thesis T-shirt
  • Jonathan Fields is teaching yoga to a free class that includes
  • Shama Kabani who’s still wondering how she got here, but is loving every moment
  • Michael Dunlop is bewildered at how he ended up amongst all these old people
  • Pete Cashmore is trying on some new Hugo Boss jackets
  • Steve Pavlina is preparing a raw food lunch for everyone and has closed comments on the subject
  • iJustine is making a Vlog called “Life in the cloud”
  • John Chow has a table set up and is selling automated ladder climbing kits
  • Seth Godin is casting small pearls of wit and wisdom all around him

So that’s where we are all heading – should be fun when we get there, no?

But we all know how hard the climb can be. Sometimes our feet slip and we go back down a rung or two, and there are snakes everywhere as well!

However, every now and then, we’re lucky enough to get a little boost – someone helps us up a few rungs in one go, and as we get higher, we see a little more of what’s going on in the cloud.

Yesterday Nathan and I were lucky. A lot of people gave us a little boost, and we were able to climb a few more rungs quite quickly. Thank you.

Today, it’s somebody else’s turn. Here’s what we’re going to do:

In each comment below, please recommend a blogger who you respect and admire, and who may not be as high up the ladder as they deserve. Just one, from each of you. Then please visit the other recommended blogs, have a look around, subscribe if you like what you see, and maybe leave a comment or two.

Let’s spread some end of year love – come on gang! I want to see loads of great blogs in the list below!
