A blogging lesson from Lady Gaga

I watched an interview with Lady Gaga the other day. She said something that really struck me - the interviewer asked something like "So do you wear these kind of clothes and hats when you go to the supermarket?"

Her reply was "Supermarket? I don't go to the supermarket, and I would never let people see me without heels, interesting clothes and full make up. That's just so un Hollywood and un glamorous, it's not living the dream! People don't want to see or know that I might be ordinary underneath"

And she's right! We don't - she's a larger than life character, and that has undoubtedly contributed to her success.

So I started to think about that in terms of blogging. For those of us blogging for a living, we're pursuing a dream, and if the majority of interviews I read are accurate, then most of us are pursuing a dream of flexible working hours, more time with our families and some degree of financial freedom.

How many of you are living that dream?

.....I thought so.

Maybe next year?

Start living your life now. It still means you can work hard, but don't keep putting life on hold for future dreams. Spend more time in the real world, get to know your kids better. Start to do the things now that you want to be able to do in the future.

If you don't, it may be too late.

Start living the life you want, and start living it now.

You'll be surprised - doing stuff away from the computer won't cost you time in your quest to "make-it." It will speed things up for you by making your writing more interesting, and by giving more ideas and stimulation.

And here's the biggest benefit of all - by living your dream life right now, you'll come across as authentic on your blog - you'll appear "Hollywood and glamorous" to all the people who aspire to that lifestyle, instead of being just another geek toiling along and trying to break free.
