Day Three - First Earnings!

I suppose it was always going to take me a day or two to work out that I need to post yesterdays new each day, otherwise I’m never up to date! So from here on in that’s what I’ll do!
Yesterday was reasonable in terms of not being chased by too many people for money, although again business was bad, so we’re still going backwards.
We were driving home and I was just beginning to relax when we had some bad news. I don’t plan to go into any detail as it will identify me to too many people, but it involved a family member going to hospital, and it was touch and go at times. As only one person is allowed in the ICU at a time, I spent from 6PM until 1AM waiting around and catching snippets of news. In the end I went home to get a couple of hours sleep, leaving my wife there, and caught up with her this morning.
The family member is going to be alright and will be transferred to a ward today sometime, but sitting around waiting for hours gave me a chance to reflect that however bad things get financially, people matter so much more. I did end up feeling sorry for myself though, how much more can fate throw at us at the moment? And how much more can my wife take? I’m lucky in that I can, to some extent, compartmentalize things, but she can’t. So on top of all the worry we have already, she has now gone through a traumatic and sleepless night. We’re also due at a function tonight I didn’t want to go to anyway (it’s funny how when you’re down, a night out, which should be good for you, is the last thing you want). Anyway, one of us needs to go so, we’ll see how that works out.
If I was a religious man, I would be wondering how what on earth God was playing at! But I’m not, so I must put this down to fate or Karma, and in either case I can only hope that things will get better.
In terms of the site, I finished “fiddling” around with the layout and so on – at some point I’ll do a post about how I added Adsense ads, the Paypal donation button and all that kind of stuff, because part of the aim is to help other people writing a blog for money through those early stages.
As you expect, the stats are pretty poor – we had five unique visitors and 346 page views. I suppose those are surprising given that there is hardly any content on here yet, but here’s the amazing news – I did earn 4 cents from one of my sources!!!! I’m delighted that on day three of a brand new site I have actually managed to earn a little money. At least it proves that everything works. The next big task is to focus on getting some traffic to the site. I will need a links page and then to do some work in forums and try to create some publicity around the site. At the end of the day if I can get a few thousand people to visit, and a few hundred either look through the ads or make a small donation, then I should earn a little bit.
On a final note, I’m determined to make an effort now. When you’re really depressed everything starts to slip – you can’t be bothered to check out your clothes properly, you don’t polish your shoes, you leave your car dirty, your bedroom becomes untidy and so on. You then end up in a spiral where you feel bad about yourself and you lose confidence, so you just don’t keep doing the basics. As of today, I’m going to get into all those old routines, and at least when I go out, I’ll go with some dignity. I will wash the car, I will sort my clothes and I will get stuck in to sorting the house out! Wish me luck!

I admire your openess and honesty, Mike, and the wisdom you've accumulated along the way.

BTW, I wouldn't call myself a religious person, but I do believe in God, and that He is revealed to us in the Bible - and the Bible says that when bad things happen to us, the culprit is not God but the enemy of our souls, and that if we call out to God, He helps us. I've found that to be true.

On the subject of blogging, I was wondering why you need a links page?

Thanks for sharing your journey!

Thanks for the comments

Thanks for the comments Marlene, and welcome!

Links page? Truth is, you don't really need one as a blogger, but I use it to swap links with other people from time to time.
