Now that I’ve been blogging for some time, I thought I’d share a glossary of blogging terms for those readers who haven’t yet become fluent in the language we bloggers use every day. Please feel free to print this or send a link to a non blogging friend – it’s time we shared our secret language with people outside the blogosphere.
Blogger enjoying a traditional “Blog Carnival”
Captcha
When a wealthy A list blogger is caught in an IP sting operation viewing porn on his PC, this is known to other bloggers as a “Captcha”
Feedburner
It’s a well known fact that bloggers don’t have time to eat conventional food. They often eat microwave popcorn, which as you know, can easily burn. This snack has therefore become known as a “Feedburner” in the blogging community
Permalink
This is a hairstyle favored by bloggers, which uses a perm, combined with a dreadlock link, hence the name “Permalink”
Link Love
This is where two bloggers who are in love both go for the permalink hairstyle
Reciprocal Link
And to affirm their love, they often swap links of hair
Sidebar
Bloggers tend to be drinkers, but they don’t go out of the house often. Most have installed small drinks bars at the side of their desks which they call “Sidebars”
Ping
Bloggers are solitary people who do not socialize in real life. In an effort to get fit, many have installed table tennis tables in their offices. With only one player, the game has become known in blogging circles as “Ping”
Blog Roll
Bloggers will often make the mistake of standing up from their desks while still having their headphones on. This will cause the head to be pulled sharply to one side, with possible serious injury. Experienced bloggers have developed a technique of rolling forward to allow the headphones to pull off without damage. This maneuver is know as a “Blog roll”
Flickr
This is what can often happen to a blogger’s screen when he is performing a blog roll
Google Slap
When a blog roll goes wrong, the blogger can often end up smashing his head onto the desk – this is know as a “Google Slap”
Podcast
Most bloggers spend a lot of time with their iPods, and some are known to have created plaster casts of them as wall decorations. These are known as “Podcasts”
Spam
Is a poor quality tinned meat British people eat
Is the sound birds make and has nothing to do with blogging
And finally, here are three links that do not relate in any way to the post above:
