Thanks for the informing video Mike and congrats on having all the contracts you have going. I need to be more proactive with that sort of thing, but I am not much of a salesman.

A big congratulations for being proactive and winning the contract. You created an opportunity for yourself by approaching them first. Well done.

Hi Mike

As I mentioned to you before this is something I have been doing for a few months now. I like your approach and will definitely use some of the points you made to streamline my consultation model. This is my approach I use to win contracts.

I am usually able to secure around 5 solid contracts from 1 hours input, heres how:

1. Collect 50 - 100 E-mail addresses or phone numbers from the classified section in the local paper. (These companies tend to be old fashioned in their marketing ways I have found.)

2. Create a simple template that is short and sweet outlining 3 key benefits of social media, what they are doing, what you can do and how it will help them. Do the same for a simple phone script.

3. Contact the companies - out of 100 i usually get about 20 responses. 15 of which usually discarded as they will require a great deal of effort to convince. I have developed an instinct to detect which responses fall into this category. (These responses are often negative and have the “why should we” or “who are you” tone.) Once these are discarded I'm left with 5 strong leads which need one or two follow ups to secure.

4. I now have 5 valuable contacts which I can start to work with.

Notes

* This cycle takes around 1 hour to execute and can be repeated swapping the local paper for Google Maps searches.

To gain some credible experience I offered the service free of charge for the first 5 companies on the basis that I could use them as a case study when talking to potential clients. This was extremely valuable as once you have evidence it helps the traditional businesses to see that it can make a difference.

* If you get a low response rate you could try and follow up the difficult ones but my rule is, if it takes more than 3 follow ups don’t peruse it.

* After winning the contract I try to limit my communication to E-mail only as phone calls/meetings tend to run for much longer than intended.

Hope this helps!
Tim

What a great idea Mike!

That is a wonderful idea Mike, love the video and congratulations for the contracts that you were able to sign. There are so many businesses out there that are still not taking advantage of Social Media. Tim also gave some great points too. Thank you. ~Lisa

Price hasn't been an issue

Price hasn't been an issue so far, although I suspect I've priced a little low to start off with!

I don't think they do understand the time element yet, but they will!
