I thought I'd share an interesting chain of events that started with a Tweet.

The Lead
A Twitter friend @grahunt recently spotted a post on a big real estate portal, and sent me the link. The post was basically suggesting that Twitter was a waste of time as a tool for estate agents. I wrote a pretty strong comment telling the writer he was doing it wrong if he hadn't seen any benefit.
The Opportunity
The owner of the site contacted me by email and asked me if I would write a post detailing my thoughts on Twitter for estate agents, so I did.
The Spin Off
I was contacted by a UK magazine writer who was doing a piece on Twitter, and who had found my guest post. She interviewed me for half an hour and will feature my comments in a magazine article.
Next I had two estate agents contact me asking if I would do some work with them. I've done one consultancy already and we're currently haggling over price with the second.
The Lesson
Get out of your niche from time to time - none of this is directly related to my work here at Mike's Life, but I've ended up with some strong links to here on big sites, one piece of business, another possible one and what should be a decent print article featuring me, and also linking to the site.
And who knows where that might lead?
