Should you go down the membership site route?

It seems that many of my colleagues in the blogging world are moving towards, or have already started using membership sites as the smart way to monetize their blogs. I’m just beginning the process of understanding how they work, what the benefits are, and more importantly what the pitfalls are. In time, I’ll cover my findings so we can all learn from them and act accordingly.

On the face of it, the membership model has a lot going for it. It creates an instant community with lots of interaction, it smooths income when compared to a product launch, and it can offer a lower entry point to people who do want to learn from an A lister.

I guess the downsides may be a “drop-off” if people aren’t finding the course of value, or if they simply can’t afford to keep paying.

I started this research with a really good document called “Membership site Mastermind” which was written by the King of the membership sites himself, Yaro Starak. The really good news is that Yaro has produced this report free of charge. You can download it here.

It covers all the key elements needed to set up a successful membership site, so if it’s something you want to learn about, or are considering for your own site in the future, then you should get yourself a copy. It’s a full 68 pages long and even includes a look “under the hood” of a real working site.

Here’s the link again to the free report: Membership site Mastermind.
