I sent a survey out to Mike’s Life readers and subscribers last week. Surveys are a great way to understand what your readers want, and to make sure you are delivering on those needs. This was my first survey, but I plan to do more in the future.
I used Questionpro‘s free account to create the survey – with the free account you’re limited to ten questions, but they have premium accounts where you can ask as many as you want and also get a full suite of analytics.
I wanted to share the results with you, and my thoughts on them:
Which type of posts do you enjoy/find most useful on Mikes Life?
General blogging tips
The Posts of the week
Making money tips
Stuff about Mike / observational post
I was surprised here, I had picked the winner, but I didn’t expect stuff about me and observational posts to be second. I guess I need to make sure that I intersperse the learning posts with more of that.
What's your preferred format for receiving information over the web?
That was also interesting – I had expected video posts to run a much closer second to written posts, and I have been making an effort to do more of them, but it seems that written posts remain a strong favorite of yours.
Let me have your honest opinion on the layout of Mikes Life
Brilliant / wonderful / I love it
Overall good, but could do with some work
I don't really like it, but I can use it
Hate it / change it / It's garbage
This needs a follow up survey, which I will do, to find out why 30% of you don’t really like the layout of the site. I suspect it’s the color, but we’ll see and I will act accordingly.
What kind of blogger are you?
I blog for fun and fun only
I blog to earn money and have some fun
I blog for money - it's pure business
I don't blog
I was amazed that 21% of the people who took the survey don’t blog. It suggests I could be more generalist with my future writing.
How can I help you?
I need help with Twitter / Facebook /Other social media
I need help with writing good content
I need help with how to make money from my blog
I need help with technical stuff related to blogging
I could do with help on all of the above
I don't need any help
These answers were largely what I expected, and I’ll continue to offer help on this broad range of topics.
What kind of products do you buy to help with your blogging?
Information products in e book form
On line course or memberships
I don't buy stuff
I was pleased that conventional books are still of interest to people. Have I mentioned Beyond Blogging? :) Interesting that close to half of readers don’t buy anything to help with their blogging. I need to find out why that is. if you answered that please let me know in comments.
What's the most you've ever spent on a blogging product?
Less than $10
$10 to $50
$50 to $100
I told you, I don't buy stuff!
No surprises here, most people seems comfortable in the $10-$50 range.
How do you make money on line? (Tick all that apply)
I was amazed at the strength of Adsense here, but that may be a reflection that the site attracts new and learning bloggers, as many people move away from it in time. Have you spotted the mistake in this question?
I deliberately haven’t over analyzed this, because I’d like you to help me. What do you make of it? Did anything drop your jaw? How would you react? Let me know below!
