The Weirdest Cocktail Party Ever

I went to a fascinating cocktail party last night. The other attendees were a truly eclectic mix of cultures, with varying knowledge and interests and I was able to engage in some very cool conversations.

Overall, I had a great time, and even had the chance to talk business to a few of the other people at the party. But all of our pleasure was somewhat disrupted by some of the oddest behaviour I've ever seen at a cocktail party.

One guy kept rushing up to me, every 15 minutes, thrusting a leaflet into my hand, walking away, and then coming back with another leaflet, each time shouting "Read this!" He'd do this three times in a row, and then disappear for 15 minutes or so.

There was another guy who had appointed himself as some kind of cocktail party expert, and seemed to think it was helpful for him to walk up and down the room and tell people how they should behave and what they should be doing at the party.

I was really quite disturbed when a fellow I'd never met before, whispered (so nobody else could hear) that he had a "free gift" for me.

I headed across the room, and overheard a lady chatting about cooking, a subject I love, so I tried to join the conversation. But before she'd speak to me, she insisted I had to prove I was human!

There was some kind of religious sect there as well. A whole bunch of people were touring the edges of the party room, constantly chanting quotes, sayings and mantras.

But the weirdest one of all there was the lady who didn't speak to anyone. She didn't even make eye contact - it was really quite spooky. She simply walked up and down the length of the room. And every few minutes she'd shout "Buy this!" and thrust a leaflet at the nearest person. Then she'd go glassy eyed and quiet again, before screaming "Buy this!" again in someone's face a few minutes later.

Like I said, a very strange party.

Maybe see you at the next one?
