What Happened Mate?

Dear John

What happened mate? Remember the good old days? You and I were going to be bigger than Brogan and Rowse!

You’d been blogging for a few months when we first “met” through Twitter. You helped me out a lot in the early days and I’ll always be grateful. We learned a lot together, commenting on each other’s stuff, helping each other through those first days of blogging when the work is so hard and you feel nobody is reading it. I think it’s fair to say you were a better writer than me – some of your work was superb, but I was always a better businesses person, and when I started talking objectives and business plans, I knew I’d quickly lost your interest.

Do you remember how we used to spend most evenings, and pretty much our whole weekends working on the blogs and various social media sites because we were in full time jobs back then? We pledged we would become social media superstars and struck a bet about who would be the first to buy a Ferrari!

It was in March that your posts started slowing down. The quality was still there, but from 3 or 4 a week it suddenly went to 1 or 2. And then in April I read that sentence that so often spells the end for a blog: “Sorry I haven’t posted for ages,  but things have been really busy. Anyway, I’m back now and I promise to get back into my old routine.” I actually wrote Hitting the Blogging Wall for you, in the hope you would read it and find your motivation again.

But I guess it didn’t work, because later that month your blog just died. Well, perhaps died is the wrong word, because it’s still there, and it still has some fantastic content, but for three months now it’s had no love, and no attention.

I now know from experience that the vast majority of blogs don’t last beyond a year, and I understand all the family, work and other reasons that happens. But I’m gutted that you, my first inspiration and my first blogging buddy, became a part of those statistics. I was so sure we’d be on this journey together, and so sure we’d reach the top together.

If you ever do decide to come back, reach out – I’m still going to be bigger than Brogan, and God knows Rowse needs some competition!

Cheers

Mike

Very touching.

So, this is for real? Do you know this (ex-)blogger? If so, then I think it's very touching that you remember your earliest blogging buddies. I hope to do the same. I also hope we can keep our mutual cooperation and encouragement going to drive us both to greatness.

Nice post for a weekend read, Mike. Made me think.
Cheers!

Pity you cannot go around

Pity you cannot go around and sit down and have a San Miguel or two. Cyberlife is all very well and good but there are times when you need to see the whites of someone's eyes.

I recently read a rapport showing that less then 30% of all blogs manage to continue pass its first year. I'm guilty of starting a few with the single purpose of making money within a niche I didn't care about. The result? Crashed and burned.

Well, I can just hope that 'John' sees your post and get his spirit up again. Do you have any contact with hem what so ever?

I do have his email, but not sure I should contact him. He needs to make the decision to come back or stay away from blogging.
