I’m Mike. I was born in Hong Kong and educated in Britain. I live in Lanzarote, The Canary Islands, just off the coast of Africa. I’m happily married, and I’m in my forties. I speak two languages, I’m a decent writer and I’m a reasonably intelligent sort of guy.

I spent the first 18 years of my life working in big businesses and had a pretty good “corporate type” lifestyle. Then I started my own real estate business here in The Canaries, and we've enjoyed many years of building it up, whilst restoring our old farmhouse. I wanted a change of lifestyle back in 2008, and above all, I wanted to write.

I became a full time blogger, author and speaker, and I loved the lifestyle! I worked every day with my wife, who runs Lanzarote Information, our travel blog.

Then, in 2011, I had an opportunity to become the Marketing Director for a group of UK companies, whose business is focused in the FMCG sector. I'm applying all the things I learned to those businesses as we create several new world class brands, and I'm sharing that learning here on this site.

I'm proud to be co-author of the smash hit book Beyond Blogging, which seems to have become the book for bloggers everywhere.

This blog is home for my thoughts and ideas, and somewhere I chart my successes (and failures!) in the business world. Here, we all learn together, and laugh together.

I love the water and spend most of my time on, in or under the ocean - I scuba dive every week, I love sailing and I surf whenever the surf's up. I'm also a triathlete, and I'm building up from sprint events towards being able to compete in a full Ironman. I feel priveleged to live in a place where I can indulge my passions as often as I want to.
