Day Twenty - Why Bloggers Shouldn't go to the Gym

Following our marathon landscaping session in the garden the previous day, it promptly rained all day today! This of course meant we could spend some serious time working on our blogs. And yes you did read that right, we now have two of them – the other is very much live and is in a niche – but I’m not going to tell you what it’s called, at least not until I carry out the big reveal of who I actually am! In fact, both my wife and I spent most of the day working on the niche blog, but I did have some very exciting news about this one during the day!

Jamie Harrop agreed that I could make a guest post on his blog and told me that he was going to publish it at 8PM our time. I spent the day in eager anticipation and felt a real thrill when it hit the net! You can read all about the process I went through to get it posted and what happened afterwards Right Here

I did get a chance to fully reflect on the previous day’s gardening – in fact the aches in every joint served to remind me every time I moved! We all spend a lot of time at our PC’s and that can result in us leading a totally sedentary life, which as we know isn’t good for us. My garden workout yesterday seems to have worked every single muscle I have – it has to have been better than any gym workout, and I had the added benefit that I spent the whole day in the fresh air and sunshine as well.

We have a big garden, close to an acre in size, and it had been neglected for years before we moved in. We’ve had to tackle it in parts as it’s so big, and up until now I’ve always been able to afford to pay someone to do the actual work, based on our designs. But that’s all changed now, and if we want things done, we need to do them ourselves. This has been so therapeutic – we’ve learned a whole load of new skills, including stone walling, making paths, creating a wooden pergola and doing pretty much anything you might need in concrete.

As well as all the health and fitness benefits we’ve gained from all this work, there’s a fantastic side benefit for a blogger or writer, and that is time to think. It has given me time to think strategically about where I want to go with blogging, and time to think about things I want to write. In fact I was running into and out of the house all day to write ideas down in my notebook.

So, all you people who have made new year’s resolutions to go to the gym every day, forget it! Instead, head into your garden at least once a week if you want to be a serious and successful blogger! And if you live in an apartment, feel free to head over to my place and do some work, I do have a list!

Talking of successful bloggers, I seem to be struggling at the moment. Traffic is still climbing steadily, and having broken the dollar a day barrier, I had high hopes, but for the second day running we had zero earnings. I am a little worried, but let’s see what happens tomorrow.

In the meantime, let me know about unusual things you do to maintain your fitness as a blogger - or are you purely a gym person?

Thanks for the link love, Mike. :)

Don't be worried. Seriously. You're doing far better than most bloggers at this stage, I promise.

Keep chugging along and try not to look at the stats too often. You might enjoy this guest post by Rowell on my blog:

Oh, gym. How I wish I have the time. Anyways, I still exercise in my room to keep me fit. Blogging made me a bit slimmer than ever and I'm trying to gain some healthy weight now. Though I don't regret it anyways.

Hi Bryan - I've lost loads

Hi Bryan - I've lost loads of weight recently, think it's the stress! No money plus loads of stress = weight loss. Then everyone says "You look really well, Mike" lol!
