This video tells the story of the day @mashable tweeted a link to a post on Mike’s Life. It covers the event, the good parts, the bad parts and the lessons.

Nice video - Thanks for sharing
I read the article yesterday and enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing the results today. OBTW.. He just tweeted this article/video too.. haha
Thanks for the video
Thanks for the video Mike. I've heard about the 'mashable effect', but I haven't seen any user videos like this yet. This should prove helpful to any web publisher hoping to have this happen to their site.
check your website before you show it
So true what you say about checking all the links around your site.
Today, a very exited client of mine told me to visit one of their websites - one about food which had this on it, and that and prize giveaways - the works!
So, I went.....
Homepage - very blank and no content.
"Choose a town" was a box, so I went - only two towns to select from
First one opened and gave me a list of takeaway restaurants - that was it.
All the links like "home" and "contact us" did not even work so used the back button to navigate back to the home page and select the other town from the non comprehensive list - Oh dear!!!! - ERROR 404!
Hmmm - I am sorry, but there is no excuse for so many errors in such a basic site.
I am only just getting into writing the html for my own site but check and re-check by putting new pages into hidden areas of my site that only I can view until I am happy.
Of course small mistakes are inevitable, thats life, but people should really make more effort.
I find it a big turn off going to sites that are full of links that are dead, old or just plain don't work and normally never bother returning.
Welcome chaps! Good to see
Welcome chaps! Good to see you on this site Simon! Yep it happened again Brent! Just about coping.

What would happen if Mashable COMMENTED?
This whole thing makes me feel a tiny bit better about my Views-to-Comments ratio!
While I'd love to increase traffic to my blog, I'd just as soon have a slightly smaller readership that would participate in the conversation. Social media's not always very sociable.
Link checking is vitally important. I wonder how many people go back to check links in year-old posts? Anyone?

Powerful Video
I enjoyed the video Mike. This is clearly a media you excel at - there is a certain something added when you see and hear someone talking which changes the experience for the watcher compared to reading words on a page. You have nice authority onscreen.
I must admit that I'm not careful at checking the links on my blog the same way I check the links on my two websites, which are much more static and only updated every month or so. I don't expect any celebrity visits anytime soon, but you never know... My background is in programming, among other things, so I know how important testing is to bring the wanted results.
Better planning next time. Eh!
